Got a large letter that didn't fit into the mailbox. Turned out that our local
Finanzamt likes to return my stack of receipts for 2011: about 50 pages. They
kept the summarising ten pages, but included a formal note:
Dear citizen who is paying taxes,
you are receiving your submitted receipts. Your tax computation is dealt with. Should there arise a refund, the amount will approach you in foreseeable future. Please refrain from further enquiry.
Kind regards, Your Finanzamt

coucher du soleil
Neulich ging die Sonne unter. Zum Glück hatte ich meine 1D und ein kleines
24er dabei, um diesen Moment für Euch zu präservieren.
Das Bild ist zusammengesetzt aus einer Belichtungsreihe. Sieben Aufnahmen über plus-minus zwei Stufen; der gesamte dynamische Umfang liegt bei etwa sechs bis sieben Oktaven. Das HDR-Stitching hat Luminance HDR übernommen. War mein erster Versuch, und die Auswahl der Farbpalette ist noch nicht optimal.
Im Histogramm blieben etwa 20 Prozent der Helligkeitswerte (8-Bit-RGB) quasi unbenutzt; daher konnte ich über Gimps Kurven noch ein wenig nachregulieren und das Bild ent-flauen.
Ansonsten schreibe ich an meiner Disse und bin daher ordentlich beschäftigt.

Back to France
Salut,
on Sunday I had to go back to Grenoble. Between Strasbourg and Paris Est, TGV stopped for... some reason. Trente minutes en retard, thirty minutes late. Paris Est to Paris Gare de Lyon in sub-35 minutes, that's tough. But Metro was fast, made it in 22 minutes.
Between writing on my thesis, I watched Don Knuth (kä-nuuß) at Google Tech Talk (March 24, 2011). Search on youtube for "knuth google tech talk". Very instructive, very Knuth. Gonna cite it in my thesis.
Yesterday, la France celebrated l'Assomption de Marie, so holiday. More time for my thesis.
